Meet Alessandro Pessi
Eclipse Enthusiast
About me
My eclipse passion started in 1999 after a rainy one in Munich. Since then, my journey as an eclipse chaser has taken me to 9 countries to witness 12 solar eclipses, accumulating over 18 minutes in totality, sharing these experiences with my wife and son. My passion with these celestial events eventually evolved into a scientific pursuit when I joined the Besselian Elements Team in 2013. As a researcher I serve as the main developer of our eclipse app. Working alongside my colleagues, I contribute to the team’s research on shadow calculations and cloud cover analysis, particularly for challenging events like the 2026 eclipse in Spain. I’m also the team’s blog and website curator.
Professionally, I am a Nuclear Engineer, having graduated from the Politecnico di Milano. I currently serve as the Chief Innovation Officer at a Home Automation company, where I lead the digital transformation with implementation of Agentic AI.
Beyond the corporate world, I am a data scientist with a focus on deep learning and neural networks. I am committed at sharing this knowledge with the next generation. At a local CoderDojo, I cure an “AI and Python” laboratory, mentoring young students as they combine reinforcement learning with Computer Vision and LLMs.
I am driven by a practical interest in using technology and data to solve complex problems, and try to serve the eclipse chasers community alongside my Besselian Elements teamates.
